Chair Adams said there is a fair amount of information in the Director’s Report, and anyone
who has follow-up questions can contact the Department or ask for them to be put on the
agenda for the next meeting.

8. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS

Chair Adams said we will see what kind of progress the ad hoc committee is making on barriers
to private recycling. She will talk with Council Member Richards and see what communications
we can have with the Council in brainstorming mode. If there are other items that members
know we want to get on the agenda, let her know.

9. ANNOUNCEMENTS
The next meeting is November 24, and it will be online.

Commissioners reviewed with the Deputy Corporation Counsel and the Secretary the
10
pertaining to board meetings that are going into effect on
requirements of the new law
January 1. One of the new requirements for remote meetings is to host a location open to the
public, so this will be attempted as a trial run at the November 24, 2021, meeting, at Building G,
the Community Meeting Hale, at the West Hawai‘i Civic Center.
Vice Chair Gaffney also asked Commissioners to be prepared to handle an appeal of the
Director’s order. Deputy Corporation Counsel Sinclair Salas-Ferguson said he could not
comment on that because it was not on the agenda, but if and when it gets to that point he will
send something out to have members prepared. He also said he will be out on paternity leave
and Deputy Corporation Counsel Keyra Wong will be covering the November meeting. Vice
Chair Gaffney said any appeal should be handled in a special meeting, to which the Chair
agreed.

10.
