Messina <br />Director <br />Michelle Malia Hiraishi <br />Deputy Director <br />Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area Closed March 12, 2022 <br />The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation announces that the <br />Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area (formerly Mauna Kea Recreation Area) will be <br />closed on March 12, 2022, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. due to a scheduled power <br />outage. <br />HELCO will be doing emergency pole replacement work in the vicinity of Gilbert <br />Kahele Recreation Area and requires the deenergizing of the substation feeding the <br />park. <br />Please plan travel through this area with the knowledge that the public restrooms <br />and amenities at this park will not be available during this timeframe.
