The County of Hawaii has, by Change of Zone within the Kaloko Nlauka <br /> ordinance, imposed and collected from landowners requesting subdivision, a per lot fee with the <br /> intent of funding intersection improvements. As of May 2012, the collected funds total <br /> $558,781.84. <br /> In a letter dated May 17,2012, the County of Hawaii is requesting that the State Department of <br /> Transportation (DOT) accept the current and future funds and implement intersection <br /> improvements at the subject intersection. <br /> After consideration, the DOT respectfully declines to accept the existing and fixture funds f'or the <br /> suhject intersection improvement from the County of Hawaii. <br /> We suggest that the County of Hawaii establish a working group consisting of its Planning, and <br /> Public Works Departments, along with the DOT Hawaii District Engineer to evaluate the options <br /> available to improve traffic safety within the limitation of the available funding and investigate <br /> implementing the most cost-effective solutions that may be possible. <br /> If you have any questions, please contact Ken Tatsuguchi, Engineering Program Manager, <br /> Highways Division,Planning Branch, at(808) 587-1830.
