Commissioner Siracusa. <br />SIRACUSA:Yeah, you mentioned that some of the familymembers live on the <br />mainland. Do they have intensions of relocating once this rezoning takes place? <br />th <br />RAYMOND:Myfatherjustcelebratedhis84 birthday on Maui two weeks ago and we <br />had a family reunion over there. And I talked to all my siblings, and they all have professions <br />and families on the mainland but they do plan on retiring back to the State where they all grew <br />up, approximately within about 10 years. <br />SIRACUSA:The reason I€m asking that is because I like the idea of family subdivisions <br />because it keeps families together; and that€s a good thing. You know, we have a lot of social <br />problems because families aren€t together. On the other hand, playing devil€s advocate, you <br />know, we look at something like this and we say, well, you know, there€s nothing really to stop <br />any of these people if they decide not to move here to sell off their parcels. And affordable <br />housing issues not withstanding, what it ends being upon the ground is another development, <br />another housing development. I look at the map and I see that we€ve got that Lakeland <br />Subdivision,andthenacrossthestreetwehaveallthesenonconforminglots;andourcriteriato <br />consider has to do with consistency for the area . And, I€m wondering, are we required to be <br />consistent with nonconforming? <br />ALAMEDA:Yeah, it€s a good question. Who you want to direct that question to? <br />SIRACUSA:Well, I€m going to direct that one to the Director cause he€s looking up at <br />the ceiling. <br />ALAMEDA:Okay. Director Yuen? <br />YUEN:You€re not required to be consistent with anything; but it€s a factor to <br />consider. It would be a stronger factor if you had, say, an Ag-3 zone across the street with 3-acre <br />lots. But it is also a factor when you have, you actually have 3-acre lots that happen to be in an <br />Ag-40 zone. It€s a factor. So, and it€s a factor to consider in favor of the applicant. But it€s not <br />something that you€re required to, you€re not required to rezone, or refuse to rezone, or to <br />recommend approval, or to not recommend approval. <br />SIRACUSA:Okay. <br />ALAMEDA:Commissioner Siracusa, follow-up? <br />11EXHIBIT A <br /> <br />
