SUPPORTING INFORMATION <br /> REGARDING SPECIAL PERMIT APPLICATION TO ALLOW <br /> TENNIS LESSONS TO BE CONDUCTED AT PERSONAL RESIDENCE <br /> AND EXISTING TENNIS FACILITY <br /> APPLICANT: RANDY KUNIMOTO <br /> Affecting Tax Map Key: (3) 2-5-061:058; Pacific Plantation Subdivision, Kukuau 2"d, South Hilo <br /> A. LOCATION OF PROJECT SITE AND LANDOWNERSHIP <br /> 1. Applicant's Request <br /> Randy Kunimoto, hereinafter referred to as the "Applicant" is requesting a Special <br /> Permit to allow for the use of a portion of his residence and existing personal-use tennis <br /> facility to conduct tennis lessons, all of which is located on 1.003 acre of land (subject <br /> property) situated within the State Land Use Agricultural District. <br /> 2. Location of Property <br /> The subject property is situated within the western section of the City of Hilo, a little <br /> more than 4.5 driving miles from Downtown Hilo and located off of Kaumana Drive at <br /> the mauka end of Edita Street, within the Pacific Plantation subdivision. The subject <br /> property is located at the western (mauka) end of Mele Manu Street, as shown below <br /> on Figure 1-Location Map and Figure 2-Vicinity Map below. <br /> 3. Landownership <br /> The subject property is owned by Randy and Leonora Kunimoto, both of whom have <br /> authorized the filing of this Special Permit application. <br /> B. STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES AND PROJECT OPERATIONAL DETAILS <br /> 4. Statement of Objectives and reasons for the request <br /> The purpose and objective for requesting this Special Permit is to allow the Applicant to <br /> utilize a portion of his personal residence and existing tennis court facility, all of which <br /> are located on the subject property, to accommodate tennis lessons that will be offered <br /> to the general public. The tennis court itself is regulation size (36' x 78') and is situated <br /> at the back of the property and is not directly visible from Mele Manu Street. <br /> As the requested use is to utilize the Applicant's personal and existing tennis court to <br /> accommodate these lessons, there will be no reliance upon public tennis courts to <br /> accommodate this activity and thereby eliminate any potential conflicts between casual <br /> public and instructional tennis play upon any public tennis courts. <br />
