The Long Term <br />Care Insurance lapse for termination notices bill also did not pass. The Kupuna <br />Caregivers Program will be coming up again in a different form. <br /> <br />Shelly informed the committee that now is the time to start considering any <br />legislative bills to submit to the Legislature for the upcoming session beginning in <br />January 2022. Horace mentioned that the Kupuna Caucus is also a vehicle <br />through which aging related bills reach the Legislature for consideration and <br />passage. The Kupuna Caucus is limited to five bills that they can submit. <br />Through a brief introduction the committee learned how individuals might submit <br />written testimony to the committee hearing the bill. The committee also learned <br />that many of these hearings have a short time frame. Once a committee is <br />scheduled, individuals have 24-hours before the scheduled start of the hearing <br />committee to submit any testimony. <br /> <br />8. <br />Laron <br />Kageyama presented to the committee “Vulnerable Adult Abuse & Neglect in <br />Hawaii” (see attached brochure). Adult Protective Services (APS) is through the <br />State Department of Human Services who receives and investigates vulnerable <br />adult abuse, and provides short-term services to protect the personal health, safety <br />and welfare of vulnerable adults who are abused, neglected, or financially <br />exploited. They also provide services when an adult is in danger of abuse if <br />immediate action is not taken. <br /> <br /> <br />10. ANNOUNCEMENTS: None. <br /> <br />11. SCHEDULING OF NEXT MEETING: <br />Friday, December 17, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. <br /> <br />12. ADJOURNMENT: Patricia Nye move to adjourn the meeting; Clyde Silva <br />motioned; seconded by Judy Bell.
