Hawaii Police Commission <br /> Special Meeting Minutes <br /> November 3, 2022 <br /> Page 4 <br /> Chair Bertsch stated that he appreciates the voices that they heard today, and thanked <br /> those in attendance for engaging with the commission to help them navigate this very <br /> important decision. He stated they will try to make them proud and will get them the <br /> best chief that they possibly can. <br /> EXECUTIVE SESSION <br /> Commissioner Robinson motioned to meet in executive session to consider the hiring of an <br /> employee of the police department, where matters affecting privacy will be involved; and <br /> may consult with the board's attorney on questions and issues pertaining to the <br /> commission's powers, duties, privileges, immunities, and liabilities pursuant to HRS 92-5 <br /> (a) (2) (4) and the Hawaii County Charter Section 13-20 (b). Commissioner Sur seconded, <br /> no discussion, and it carried unanimously. Executive session convened at 1:57 p.m. <br /> Motion to reconvene open session made by Commissioner Robinson, seconded by <br /> Commissioner Sur, with no discussion and it carried unanimously. Regular session <br /> reconvened at 4:32 p.m. <br /> Chair Bertsch thanked the commission for their dedication to this process. Moving forward, <br /> he thinks it's important to continue this process and asked for a motion to host another <br /> special meeting. Commissioner Robinson made a motion to schedule another special <br /> meeting, seconded by Commissioner Springer. Commissioner Sur asked if there will be a <br /> quorum. Chair Bertsch stated they will leave it up to their secretary to collaborate, find a <br /> meeting venue and confirm attendance. DCC Frenz suggested finalizing a date today, to <br /> make things easier. No further discussion, it carried unanimously, motion passed. <br /> Commissioner Robinson stated there is a Police Commission meeting scheduled for <br /> November 18t" and suggested keeping the regularly scheduled meeting. The commission <br /> decided not to schedule an additional special meeting and agreed this is easier.
