Having the project situated in this area <br /> provides convenience to residents of this part of Puna. Hence, <br /> the project's location would not necessarily foster urban <br /> commercial sprawl. <br /> Additionally, while this project would not necessarily provide <br /> broad economic opportunity for Puna's residents, it does <br /> provide a needed service while helping keep the Applicants <br /> financially a bit more solvent. <br /> 2. Agriculture and Economic Development <br /> The CDP identifies the following: <br /> Goals <br /> • Increase opportunities for diversified agriculture <br /> • Preserve lands for agricultural use <br /> • Increase local market share of Puna agricultural products <br /> Obiectives <br /> • Discourage urban growth and further subdivision on lands <br /> that have been identified as having agricultural value <br /> While the subject site is zoned agriculture, there has been no <br /> evidence that the site, aside from domestic purposes, has been <br /> used intensively for agricultural purposes in the recent past. It <br /> has been used as a residence. <br /> As such, the existing project should not have an adverse impact <br /> on the agriculture industry. it could be indirectly supportive of it <br /> 8 <br />
