Merit Appeals Board
July 18, 2022
CHR. CABANAS: At this time, may I have a motion for the Board to enter into executive
session regarding these matters pertaining to Communication no. 22-04.
MS. MATHEWS: So moved.
CHR. CABANAS: Can I have a second.
MS. DE SOTO: Second.
CHR. CABANAS: Thank you, Ms. Mathews, and Ms. De Soto. Motion made and seconded
to—for the Board to enter into executive session regarding Communication number 22-04. Is
there any discussion at this point? Okay, everyone is shaking their heads, "no."
Okay, so I'm going to start with a rollcall vote with Ms. Gay Mathews, on the motion made.
MS. MATHEWS: Aye.
CHR. CABANAS: Ms. De Soto.
MS. DE SOTO: Aye.
CHR. CABANAS: Ms. Cabanas—aye.
We have three ayes. For the record, Mr. Kunz and Mr. Ventura are absent and excused. Motion
has been carried.
So, it is now 10:06 a.m. The Board will enter into executive session. And I'm going to kindly
request that only the Board members, along with Ms. Yamada, be secluded in the Hilo Council
Chambers at this time until we're done. Thank you so much.
RECESS: The Chair called for a recess at 10:06 a.m. to convene executive session.
RECONVENE: The meeting reconvened at 10:25 a.m. in open session.
CHR. CABANAS: So, at 10:25 a.m. because there are further questions, let us go back into
executive session. So, may I have a motion for us to go back into executive session?
MS. DE SOTO: So moved.
CHR. CABANAS: Thank you, Kate. A second?
MS. MATHEWS: Second.
Page 4
