A 1-story 1,400 sq ft support building houses the maintenance operations, off- <br /> grid electrical system (solar panels, wind turbine, inverters, back-up generator, <br /> electrical batteries) storage, and related activities; <br /> 4. Salt purified swimming pool; <br /> 5. Three (3) 720 square foot, single story spa buildings, which include a locker <br /> building with showers, an exercise /pool building, and a resting / reception room <br /> for massage and other Spa services; <br /> 6. A 20+ stall parking area consisting of crushed gravel surface to maintain the <br /> ambiance of a natural environment; <br /> 7. Public access pathways to the ocean; <br /> 8. Related improvements such as graveled pathways, flower gardens, organic <br /> vegetable gardens and orchards, over three (3) acres of which are devoted to <br /> various agricultural activities. <br /> 9. The current project is fully built out with all units and auxiliary buildings <br /> completed. There are currently over 30 building permits for all structures. <br /> (Exhibit B) <br /> B. Project Concept <br /> Hawaii Island Retreat has successfully operated as a healing retreat lodge for 13 <br /> years, for groups and individual. Groups come to learn from the land and their <br /> teachers how to live a healthy life. <br /> Sustainability and connection to the land is taught with food, gardens, meditation, <br /> and other physical and spiritual wellness experience-based programs. An advanced <br /> training in sustainability is taught with participation in growing fruits and vegetables <br /> and becoming aware of the production of electricity with wind and photo voltaic <br /> panels, as well as the importance of living in harmony with the earth (aina). All water <br /> is heated with solar panels and all electricity is generated on site. There is a focus <br /> on growing much of the food we provide for guests <br /> Condition 5 of the Special Permit required the inclusion of an agricultural <br /> component. In that regard, at least three (3) of the 5-acre area is being used for the <br /> cultivation of fruits, vegetables, Ti, plumeria groves, medicinal plants, herbs and <br /> flowers. Beyond the 5+ acre area and within the 14.5-acre parcel, there are also <br /> other agricultural activities in the form of pasturage for cattle, and orchards of <br /> banana, citrus, breadfruit, and mango trees. <br /> The additional 400+/- square foot hale (Figure 3) will be situated incorporated within <br /> the existing gardens and orchards.
