Center if you look on the maps of the County it’s in the ML zone. But the County is, if the <br />Hawaiian Homes Commission makes a decision to lease that for a Commercial site, which is not <br />as I mentioned before Retail/Commercial, is not allowed by the zoning, the County will say, yes, <br />you can do that; and the County will then process, for example, building permits, plan approvals <br />and the like for that site. Now Hawaiian Home will according to the MOA follow normal <br />requirements not related to the use of the land. But what I mean is they would follow something <br />like the height limit, the number of parking spaces, handicap stalls, landscaping, and those kinds <br />of requirements that go with the development of the site. That’s part of the MOA. But the <br />County would allow Hawaiian Home to make the decision as far as the basic use of the site. <br />That’s the gist of the MOA. <br />GRAHAM: Thank you. <br />SIRACUSA: Follow-up please? <br />GRAHAM: I’d like to go forward as much as I can with public testimony. <br />SIRACUSA: Okay, just quickly for clarification. <br />GRAHAM: Yes, Commissioner Siracusa. <br />SIRACUSA: So the people who are here because they oppose a superstore on Hawaiian <br />Home lands specifically are taking their concerns to the wrong body then. They should be taking <br />those concerns to DHHL. But people who are against or for superstores in general that’s what <br />this hearing is about. Is that correct? <br />YUEN: Right. The Hawaiian Home Department based on the decision by the <br />Commission, just to give you an example, has put the site that’s right behind the current Wal- <br />Mart up for lease, and Wal-Mart was the bidder and is currently negotiating with Hawaiian <br />Home to put a store on that site. But that’s a decision of the Hawaiian Homes Commission, not <br />by any County authority. <br />SIRACUSA: Thank you. <br />GRAHAM: Thank you for bringing all this up, Commissioner Siracusa. I do think it’s <br />quite relevant. <br />SIRACUSA: I thought that some of the people out in the audience needed to understand <br />that distinction. <br />GRAHAM: Yes.
