Company 5-B <br />Hawaiian Acres Company 5-Bravo continues to prove themselves as an invaluable asset to <br />their community as they have responded to and extinguished multiple vehicle fires, often <br />arriving and extinguishing the fire before the in -district units arrive. <br />Company 5-C <br />Fern Forest Company 5-Charlie was able to assist their community by potentially saving <br />several structures from an unauthorized controlled burn that spread to surrounding brush. <br />Company 5-D <br />Fern Acres Company 5-Delta responded to several vehicle and rubbish fires in their community. <br />Company 11-C <br />Discovery Harbour Volunteer Company 11-Charlie are in the process of building a brush truck <br />by modifying an unused vehicle from the mechanic shop's `bone yard'. HFD 425 which was <br />formerly known as Rescue 7-7, was repurposed and will replace the 1967 Jeep Kaiser that <br />served as Brush Truck 11-Charlie for many years. <br />Fire Prevention Branch <br />NFPA 1 Fire Code Update <br />The 2018 NFPA 1 Fire Code passed the second hearing with the Hawai'i County Council on <br />January 5, 2023. Mayor Mitch Roth signed the ordinance on January 13, 2023. The 2018 <br />edition of the NFPA 1 Fire Code and amendments are now in effect for Hawai'i County. <br />Structure Fires <br />The Fire Prevention Branch investigated 2 structure fires during the month of January. The <br />fires were located in Districts 3 and 18. The fire in district 3 involved a fatality of a female in <br />her 50's. <br />Fire Inspector II Plans Examiner Ed Kawasaki has reported reviewing a total of 20 plans with an <br />average time of 2.3 hours spent on each plan. <br />12 <br />2023 1 JANUARY <br />
