<br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />HEARING TRANSCRIPT <br />AUGUST 31, 2007 <br />PUAKO BAY INVESTORS, LLC <br />A regularly advertised hearing on the application of <br />(SMA 07-000016) <br />was called to order at 10:16 a.m. at the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach <br />Hotel, 75-5660 Palani Road, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, with Chairman William Graham presiding. <br />PRESENT: William Graham ABSENT & EXCUSED: Takashi Domingo <br /> C. Kimo Alameda Shelly Ogata <br /> Andrew Iwashita Rene’ Siracusa <br /> Alvin Rho <br /> Rodney Watanabe <br /> Rell Woodward <br />Ivan Torigoe, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Norman Hayashi, Planning Program Manager <br />Phyllis Fujimoto, Staff Planner <br />Jeff Darrow, Staff Planner <br />Christopher Yuen, Planning Director <br />And 16 people from the public in attendance. <br />APPLICANT: PUAKO BAY INVESTORS, LLC (SMA 07-000016) <br />Continuation of a Public Hearing on the application for a Special Management Area (SMA) Use <br />Permit to allow the development of an 8-lot single-family residential subdivision and related <br />improvements. The property is located on the makai side of Puako Beach Drive, adjacent to and <br />east of the Puako boat ramp, Lalamilo, South Kohala, Hawaii, TMK: 6-9-2:1 and 2. <br />GRAHAM: The second item on our agenda is a continuation of a Public Hearing on <br />the application for a Special Management Area Permit to allow the development of an 8-lot <br />single-family residential subdivision and related improvements. The property in question is <br />located on the makai side of the Puako Beach Drive, and is adjacent to and on the Kona side of <br />the Puako boat ramp, in South Kohala. The applicant is Puako Bay Investors, LLC. Again, if <br />you, we have one testifier. If you want to testify on this application, please go to the end of the <br />table and fill out a slip. Jeff? <br />DARROW: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. If I can direct your attention to the location <br />map, the area of this application is within the South Kohala District of Hawaii. More <br />specifically, we’re looking at the Puako area. This is Queen Kaahumanu Highway running in a <br />north-south direction. From Queen Kaahumanu Highway we have Puako Beach Drive running <br />in a northeast-southwest direction. The different colors on the map illustrate our County zoning. <br />The lighter green shades represents Agricultural 5acres. The darker green represents Open <br />zoning mainly along the ocean areas. The light yellow represents Single Family Residential <br />10,000 square feet.
