FRENZ: I mean, under the Charter, by law, even myself, for example—cannot try to <br />negotiate better ERS Employment Retirement Service benefits then my counterpart, for <br />example. <br />MS. NAKAMA: I understand that, but we need to keep that in the back of our heads when <br />looking at base salary increases or decreases that whether—like, the firemen and police are <br />separate from the rest of the County. I understand that. And then, because of what happened <br />way back 2012-2016—they no longer have family benefits, that's why we don't have recruits <br />large number of recruits today. <br />MS. NAMAHOE: This is Commissioner Namahoe. I just want to do quick housekeeping—so <br />much dialogue just happened. I need you to introduce yourself, sir, I need you to introduce <br />yourself, ma'am—I need you to introduce yourself. So much just happened. PAVAO: So, I think that we need to be cognizant of benefits but it's not something that <br />the Charter gives us any authority over so. So, other things we need to do, I think, in the interest <br />of what we're tasked with is to focus on what the Charter mandates that this Commission does, <br />which is to consider salaries for the appointed and elected officials in the County. <br />MS. GREENBAUM: Commissioner Greenbaum. <br />CHR. PAVAO: Yes. <br />MS. GREENBAUM: The inversions are not right because if you got a line employee the <br />highest line employee is being compensated more than the executive then you're not going to <br />find qualified individuals. Why would they want that responsibility? <br />So—and they had not had a raise since 2018, and inflation has been up quite a bit since.
