Merit Appeals Board <br />June 22, 2023 <br />It has been a pleasure to have worked with you the last two years. Your foresight and <br />commitment to uphold the merit system and administer the human resources program for <br />the County of Hawaii is greatly appreciated. <br />With the COVID-19 pandemic, additional human resources issues were brought to light <br />that had to be dealt with and for this we are very grateful for your efforts in leading the <br />human resources program. <br />We wish you good health, much happiness, and success as you journey on to a new <br />chapter. <br />With sincerest gratitude,"—from all of us. <br />CHR. CABANAS: Would any of the Board members like to provide any comments to Waylen? <br />Ms. De Soto. <br />MS. DE SOTO: Just thank you for all your work for our County and for helping the Department <br />of Human Resources move along and try to enact some of the visions and the goals that you first <br />identified when you started. <br />CHR. CABANAS: Ms. Mathews, any comments to Waylen? <br />MS. MATHEWS: Well, as Mr. Leopoldino knows, as soon as I heard I called to try to talk him <br />out of it. I failed. He actually had good justification for leaving. And it's been a real pleasure <br />working with him all through these few years. <br />CHR. CABANAS: Thank you, Gay. Mr. Wiseman. <br />MR. WISEMAN: Yeah. Waylen, I lost count in the survey results of how many complimentary <br />remarks for you. I noticed a couple excellence in (inaudible), but I lost count on but there's <br />many. <br />So, thanks for a good job and good luck in your new position. <br />CHR. CABANAS: Mr. Kunz. <br />MR. KUNZ: Waylen, good luck. It's been a pleasure for quite a few years since you and I <br />started working together and watched you come to where you are today. I'm sure wherever you <br />land and wherever you're working, they'll be very lucky to have you—and our loss is their gain. <br />And ditto to what Kate was saying. I think if you set the groundwork for a lot of things going <br />forward and I think we look forward to your successor to carry on where you've left off. <br />Thank you very much. And good luck!
