My wife, Bonnie and I have lived on Kekuanaoa Place in Kona Vistas Subdivision for the past 4.5 years
and it has been very peaceful except for a few issues. Currently this street is the only access to the Royal
Vistas Development. There are 450 Units projected for Royal Vistas development which is more than the
total units in whole Kona Vistas Subdivision. There are currently eight homes on Kekuanaoa Place and
our street is to support the traffic from the entire Royal Vistas development. We live in the block of
Kekuanaoa Place, which is a dead-end street, allowing for a minimum of traffic which will cease to be if
this street is the main corridor for Royal Vistas. We are contesting the ten-year extension for the
development of Royal Vistas.
The congestion from construction workers vehicles parked on the street and additional vehicles from
residents living in Royal Vistas will make the street extremely busy. This additional traffic will endanger
children who live here and well as elderly people living on the street including ourselves.
Noise will be a major issue as our home is within 100 feet of the Royal Vistas Development. Construction
noise will be constant. Also, a swimming pool is projected within the entrance to Royal Vistas which
would be no more than 150 feet from our home. Swimming pool noise is loud and continues late into
the night.
Wildlife would be endangered with this development. There are owls, hawks and other birds residing on
the land currently. We have water catchment pans attached to our rain chains on our house eves to
collect water for the flying birds since the rain fall is minimal here. We constantly fill these catchment
pans, so the birds have a water source otherwise not available. We have attached a picture of an owl
setting in our back yard.
Cattle have been grazing on the land for as long as we have lived here. This property is not zoned
agriculture but residential. The owner of the property claims they are not theirs, but he has not done
anything to keep them off the property. In fact, he has allowed fences to be put up to contain the cattle
within their property, but cattle have broken through several times endangering our property and lives.
Flood waters flow down the mountain, in fact there were flood waters last week rushing down the
mountain for an hour and caused flooding on Kuakini Highway. What are the plans to take care of the
water flowing through their property?
These are just some of the issues that would affect our lives living on Kekuanaoa Place in Kona Vistas.
Again, we are against the ten-year extension for the development of Royal Vistas.
Mahalo
Robert D. Harris
Bonnie L. Harris
76-4323 Kekuanaoa Place, Kailua Kona, HI 96740-6958
