<br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />HEARING TRANSCRIPT <br />DECEMBER 2, 2005 <br />A regularly advertised meeting on the application of JOHN AND JEANNE VURICH (SPP 04- <br /> <br />017)was called to order at 10:45 a.m. in the County Building, Councilroom - Room 201, <br />25 Aupuni Street, Hilo, Hawaii, with Second Vice-Chairman Kimo Alameda presiding. <br />PRESENT:C. Kimo AlamedaABSENT & EXCUSED: Fred Galdones <br />Hannah SpringerBill Graham <br />Jeffrey McCallAndrew Iwashita <br />Allen Salavea <br />Rene Siracusa <br />Rodney Watanabe <br />Ivan Torigoe, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Christopher J. Yuen, Planning Director <br />NormanHayashi,PlanningProgramManager <br />Phyllis Fujimoto, Staff Planner <br />Jeff Darrow, Staff Planner <br />And approximately 12 people from the public in attendance. <br />APPLICANTS: JOHN AND JEANNE VURICH (SPP 04-017) <br />Discussion and action on the Hearing Officers report on a Special Permit to allow the <br />establishment of a self-storage facility with perimeter chain link fencing and landscaping on one <br />acre of land situated in the State Land Use Agricultural District. The property is located at the <br />th <br />northwestern corner of Kaloli Drive and 14 Avenue, and adjacent to the existing JJs Self <br />Storage facility, Hawaiian Paradise Park Subdivision, Keaau, Puna, Hawaii, TMK: 1-5-46:120. <br />ALAMEDA:What we have before us is a discussion. We have John and Jeanne Vurich <br />(SPP 04-017). This is a discussion and action on the Hearing Officers report on a Special <br />Permit to allow the establishment of a self-storage facility with perimeter chain link fencing and <br />landscaping on one acre of land situated in the State Land Use Agricultural District. The <br />th <br />property is located at the northwestern corner of Kaloli Drive and 14 Avenue. Staff? <br />HAYASHI:Thank you, Mr. Chair, Members of the Commission. Ill just give you a <br />briefchronologyastothisparticularapplication.Asyourecall,thehearingonthisapplication <br />was first heard on April 1, 2005. And at that time there was a request by a James Larry <br />SchneiderandaSarahHarlanforapetitiontobecomeapartyinthisproceeding.Petitionswere <br />granted by the Planning Commission. However, on August 12, 2005 Mr. Schneider withdrew <br />hisrequesttobeapartyinasmuchashewasintheprocessofsellinghisproperty.The <br />Commission also voted to outsource the hearing to a hearings officer; and Mr. Thomas Yeh was <br />selectedasthehearingsofficerforthePlanningCommission.Mr.Yehconductedahearingon <br />August 24, 2005 at which time all of the parties were represented.
