<br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br />HEARING TRANSCRIPT <br />DECEMBER 7, 2007 <br />JINSOO AND RAN HUI IIDA <br />A regularly advertised hearing on the application of <br />(REZ 07-000073) <br />was called to order at 9:45 a.m. in the County of Hawaii, Aupuni Center <br />Conference Room, 101 Pauahi Street, Hilo, Hawaii, with First Vice-Chairman C. Kimo Alameda <br />presiding. <br />PRESENT: William Graham ABSENT & EXCUSED: Andrew Iwashita <br />Kimo Alameda <br />Takashi Domingo <br />Shelly Ogata <br />Alvin Rho <br />Rene’ Siracusa <br /> Rodney Watanabe <br />Rell Woodward <br />Ivan Torigoe, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Norman Hayashi, Planning Program Managher <br />Phyllis Fujimoto, Staff Planner <br />Jeff Darrow, Staff Planner <br /> And approximately 12 people from the public in attendance <br />APPLICANT: JINSOO AND RAN HUI IIDA (REZ 07-000073) <br />Change of Zone from Single Family Residential 10,000 square feet (RS-10) to a Neighborhood <br />Commercial 20,000 square feet (CN-20) for 23,559 square feet of land. <br />The property is located along the west side of Kilauea Avenue, approximately 420 feet south of <br />the Kilauea Avenue – Puainako Street intersection, Waiakea Homestead House Lots, South Hilo, <br />Hawaii, Tax Map Key: 2-2-40:121. <br />ALAMEDA: Okay, Agenda Item No. 2, I’d like to just turn it over to our staff. <br />Mr. Darrow? <br />DARROW: Thank you, Mr. Chair. Again, this is a continued action on this <br />application. At our last hearing a motion was made to send a favorable recommendation to the <br />Hawaii County Council. This was moved by Commissioner Iwashita, at which time he had <br />made standard conditions for the approval. The motion did not pass with three ayes and three <br />noes. <br />If I can do a brief background for this application for the Commissioners that were not with us at <br />our last hearing. The area of this application is in the South Hilo District. More specifically <br />we’re looking at Kilauea Avenue. Why don’t I come to the location map. Kilauea Avenue <br />running in a north-south direction. This wide gray line running through the middle of the map in <br />a north-south direction is Kanoelehua.
