AA: I talked to him a couple months ago about it. <br /> <br />SW: And was he in favor of the idea? <br /> <br />AA: Ah, he was in favor of the idea but with him not being here I’m not really – things have changed <br />within the last few months. <br /> <br />SW: OK. Well, if it doesn’t work, we can do another nomination in-between. But I’ll take it as he <br />accepted the nomination, or he would accept the nomination at this point even though he’s not <br />here. Just based on his communication with you. <br /> <br />AA: So, if he does not accept it then I still hold Chairmanship next month as well? <br /> <br />SW: No, it would mean that whoever the Vice Chair is would be the Chair for that meeting until we <br />figure out who our Chair is. Got that? <br /> <br />AA: Yes. <br /> <br />SW: All right, so the motion was to nominate Austin Griffey as Chair and Cortney Okumura as Vice <br />Chair. It has been seconded – it is now open for discussion. <br /> <br />AA: Any other discussion on this matter? Any other ideas on this matter? <br /> <br />LT: Ah, Leomana, I think – when I look at the Commission I think that it’s – that the Chair needs to <br />know people – like how you – you got more connections than all of us – even Austin – he might <br />know more numbers than I do, um, you know, I just moved back to Big Island four years ago and <br />you guys have been here solid the last 20, so, with Austin I know he has… <br /> <br />AA: Forty-five… <br /> <br />LT: Forty-five, you know, however long. Well, like the connections and the numbers that you guys <br />have and the right-of-ways and access to all the people is, is to me the most important for this <br />Commission. Like how you can call all the heads of DLNR, or the hunters and all of them already. <br />I’m still learning who they are and so to me it’s like if Austin has their numbers, and he knows <br />them on a personal basis – that’s probably the best thing for all of us cause if I have a concern I <br />can just bring it up to him or you and you call them instead of, you know, it’s just – if I look at <br />the community we benefit that way overall. <br /> <br />SW: Deputy Corporation Counsel Sylvia Wan. As far as it is getting contacts for individuals from <br />different departments, I may be able to assist. <br /> <br />LT: Um-hum. <br /> <br />SW: And that, I mean, obviously if you know them you have a relationship going prior – that’s <br />obviously has value. But I’m just – I don’t want to have anybody be scared like oh, I don’t know <br />all these people. <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br /> <br />
