<br />To: Department of Land and Natural Resources <br /> <br />On behalf of the Game Management Advisory Commission, we are in full support <br />of the new rule change turning from rifle to archery in the small parcel of Unit A <br />located across the street from the Mauna Kea State Park. <br /> <br />After viewing the location on foot and group discussion, we conclude that it is an <br />unsafe area to discharge firearms being so close to the main highway and <br />recreational area. <br /> <br />The unit is sandwiched between the Mauna Kea State Park and the Pohakuloa <br />military base leaving no safe shooting direction for rifles. It is such a small hunting <br />area that it gets heavily crowded with rifle hunters with no limit on the number of <br />hunters allowed at a time. <br /> <br />Archery is a much safer option for such a small area, it’s quiet, more distance <br />limitation and will not scare visitors at the nearby park. <br /> <br />We also feel without the constant pressure of rifle hunters, the sheep will migrate <br />through more frequently making it a better hunting area. <br /> <br />Best regards, <br />GMAC <br />
