County of Hawaii <br />Aquatic Lifeguard- $18.00/hour <br />Duties Summary: <br />Independently performs duties at a swimming pool to protect life, prevent accidents, and assist <br />persons in distress; enforces pool safety regulations; conducts or participates in water safety <br />instructions, swimming instructions, and other recreational aquatic programs; maintains pool and <br />pool area; and performs other related duties as required. <br />Minimum Qualification Requirements: <br />Training and Experience: <br />• A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high <br />school. <br />License and Certification Requirements (Certificates must be maintained on a current basis): <br />• Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate; or <br />• other current equivalent certification, <br />• a current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor's Certificate as applicable to the position, <br />(required for NAS Pool) <br />• ability to travel independently to various geographic locations. This requirement may be fulfilled by <br />the possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3), a valid comparable driver's <br />license, or use of other means of transportation that meets position needs. <br />Knowledge of: <br />• Techniques and methods of lifesaving; <br />• techniques of emergency life support including mouth-to-mouth and cardio-pulmonary <br />resuscitation; <br />• first aid principles and practices; <br />• artificial respiration; <br />• methods and practices of filtering and purifying swimming pool water; <br />• cleaning methods and materials and equipment used; and <br />• report writing. <br />Ability to: <br />• Rescue persons from the water, <br />• administer first aid and CPR; <br />• recognize when ill or injured persons require professional medical care; <br />• prepare clear and concise operational and incident reports; <br />• enforce regulations; <br />• conduct and instruct aquatic classes and activities; <br />• deal tactfully and effectively with the public; and <br />• read and follow written instructions. <br />Physical and Health Requirements: <br />Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition <br />standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or <br />without reasonable accommodations. <br />Physical Effort Grouping: Special <br />County of Hawai'i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br />r. 01.2024 <br />
