Testimony of Frank Lorenzo Sr.
March 4, 2024
OPPOSITION TO BLACK SAND BEACH LLC.
Aloha Members of the Windward Planning Commision,
I am writing this letter in OPPOSITION to this planned development of Punalu'u.
My name is Frank Lorenzo Sr. and I was born and raised and still live in Pahala, Ka'u. I spent a
lot of time as a child fishing with my Dad and with my other relatives at Punalu'u Beach.
Punalu'u Beach, (as well as the entire Hawaii Island) is already overcrowded as it is now, and I
feel that having a resort at Punalu'u with hundreds or thousands of visitors every day will make
it even worse, both for the beach as well as neighboring communities, who will have to deal with
more traffic and more people. There are already more than enough resorts on this island to
cater to these visitors. The people who wish to live and work in this kind of environment should
move into the areas that are already developed. This includes Black Sand Beach LLC. who
should invest in properties that are already developed, not buy cheap land and then try to make
a profit, at the expense of the fragile ecosystem, endangered species, and local residents.
Ka'u is a very special and beautiful place, where you can see clear views from the Mountain to
the Ocean and spend days without noise and traffic. This place should be left alone for the
people who wish to enjoy their natural environment and for those who wish to live off of the land.
Please vote NO for this planned development of Punalu'u.
Mahalo,
Frank Lorenzo Sr.
