Chief Oliveira stated that the CPAT testing would require a transportability <br />study and a consultant would be sent to identify the demographics of the <br />candidates€ schools to learn the emission specific issues of the <br />department. Also, an enclosed arena is recommended. Therefore, the <br />department is considering Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium or the University <br />of Hawai‹i€s gym. <br />Commissioner Fergerstrom asked when this project would be initiated. <br />Chief Oliveira stated that the HCFD is shooting for next summer. <br />Commissioner Matsuda questioned whether the volunteers would be <br />tested. <br />ChiefOliveirarepliedthattheHCFDwouldbeadministeringCPATtoall <br />the members of the department. This will allow the department to <br />encourage their personnel to stay physically fit and to identify any <br />deficiencies they may have. <br />Commissioner Fergerstrom questioned whether the volunteers would be <br />informed and given notice. <br />Chief Oliveira stated that everyone would be well informed. <br />Commissioner Browne inquired on the older volunteers. <br />Chief Oliveira stated that it is not fair to these individuals if they were set <br />up for injury or worse. There is a need to screen them and have them <br />know the physical demands of the job. The HCFD does not want to <br />terminate anyone from the program. Their goal is to phase it in. <br />Volunteers can participate with other areas in the department. <br />Volunteer Training Division <br /> Volunteer Chief€s Meeting: To be held on September 10, 2005, at <br />· <br />10:00 a.m., at the Ka€iminani Drive Pavillion, in the Kona Palisades. <br />Hosted by Volunteer Chief Derrick Domingo. <br /> Donation of Brush Truck: Offered by the Salinas Fire Department. In the <br />· <br />process of obtaining a formal approval from the County Council and will be <br />making arrangements to ship the truck. Earmarked for the Pa€auilo <br />Volunteer Fire Company. 1990 Ford F450 brush truck. Next meeting will <br />have timetable on the delivery through Matson. <br />Commissioner Fergerstrom asked whether there was a process to be <br />followed when accepting donations. <br />7 <br /> <br />
