DISTRICT – REPORTS <br /> <br /> <br />ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON AGING MEETING MINUTES <br />Thursday, January 25, 2024, 10:00 A.M. <br />Page 3 <br /> <br /> <br />Bill(s) that did not make the package is the Silver Alert Program but will be introduced <br />by Representative Chun. Our county has the program in place. It’s the other counties <br />that do not have the program. <br /> <br />8. BUSINESS DISCUSSIONS – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair <br />Judy Bell mentioned that last month the Mayor’s Annual Report was submitted. <br /> <br />9. Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair <br />- Judy Bell reported on the Kona Adult Day Center (KADC) – looking for space. <br />Horace mentioned there were a couple of suggestions that have been brought to our <br />attention. We are working with entities. It is not the Office of Aging that’s going to <br />open KADC. We are trying to assist in helping entities come together. We are to <br />look at demographics, clientele, cost and other factors. Judy mentioned that she <br />spoke to the Hawaii Community Caregiver Board who are willing to help in any way <br />they can. Also communicated with the Kona Task Force and asked if anyone has <br />contacts with any commercial real estate and brokers. Found out the old Kmart is not <br />available. One of the board member who is on the Chamber of Commerce mentioned <br />Kmart will become the film studio. It will be the largest film studio in the state. Part <br />of he old Safeway in Kona will be occupied by the U.S. Post Office and other retail <br />businesses. Horace mentioned he did have a conversation with Rowena. The entity <br />that is interested has experience in daycare. Her concern is that the old place was not <br />feasible. <br /> <br />10. ANNOUNCEMENTS – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair <br />Horace Farr announced AARP Taxes preparation will be until April 2024; and looking to <br />secure the next committee meeting on July 26, 2024 or September 27, 2024 pending <br />meeting room availability in Kona at the West Hawaii Civic Center (WHCC). <br /> <br />11. NEXT COMMITTEE ON AGING MEETING – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair <br />- Friday, March 22, 2024 <br />- Committee voted Friday, July 26, 2024 meeting to be held in Kona <br /> <br />12. ADJOURNMENT – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair <br />Judy Bell, Committee Vice Chair move to adjourn the meeting; Lisa McNamarra <br />motioned to move; seconded by Judy Bell.
