Emergency Operations Division <br /> Tropical Depression Felicia: The personnel continuously monitored the <br />hurricane. The department was able to use the incident as an exercise. <br /> Waikoloa Brush Fire: Brush fire burned approximately 130 acres at <br />Akaula Place. Fire was contained. There were no injuries or evacuations. <br />The cause of the fire is unknown. <br />Support Services Division <br />Emergency Medical Services Bureau <br /> Personnel participated in the Kona Community Hospital Annual Hospital <br />Association of Hawai'i (HAH) Disaster exercise on July 15, 2009. <br />Fire Auxiliary Services <br />Communications Section <br /> Received an additional 30 pagers for the Volunteers. <br />Training Bureau <br />th <br /> 38 Firefighter Recruit Class: Class began their EMT-I training on <br />July 20, 2009. Graduation is scheduled for September 19, 2009. <br />Invitations will be sent to the commission. <br />Volunteer Section <br />Report provided by Volunteer Fire Chief Tom Brandt <br /> Hawai'i Volunteer Fire Chief’s Association meeting: Scheduled for <br />September 12, 2009, at Station 14A Kohala Ranch, at 10:00 a.m. Maps <br />will be provided to the Fire Commission at the September meeting. <br /> Station 19 water tanks were purchased. Delivery is scheduled for <br />August 12, 2009. <br /> Truck for Station 14A is near completion and will be delivered to West <br />Hawai'i. <br />Prevention Bureau <br /> The department is trying to expedite recruitment due to understaffing. <br />Jack Pacleb will be employed as a contract hire. <br /> Inspectors have identified that some newly installed fire hydrants have not <br />been activated. Therefore, the Fire Department will be setting up a <br />process to flow test the fire hydrants before an individual receives the <br />Certificate of Occupancy. <br />New Projects/Business <br /> Fleet Management Program: Currently, the department’s personnel are <br />being trained with Mainstar to use software program. The software was <br />purchased in partnership with the Department of Public Works to help <br />track and manage its fleets maintenance and replacement. <br />4 <br /> <br />
