Commissioner Maedo explained that the there is a budget for mileage and the <br />members are offered lunch after the meeting. <br />Fire Chief Oliveira verified that there isn’t a budget. <br />Commissioner Laitinen commented that at the present time this issue is just at <br />the consideration phase. She also mentioned that the Police Commission has a <br />Police Commission Conference and the Fire Commissions could research the <br />Police Commission’s practice. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Commissioner Maedo moved to accept the September 12, 2007, regular session <br />minutes. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Pomroy. Discussion: <br />Commissioner Rosehill stated that he would like to make an amendment to <br />paragraph 11, on page 6 of the regular session’s minutes. He would like the <br />minutes to state that Chief Oliveira indicated at last month’s meeting that there <br />was consideration to add a Fire Station in the Hookena area in South Kona. The <br />motion was unanimously carried. <br />APPROVAL OF WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS <br />Commissioner Bowles moved to accept communication numbers 07-015 and <br />07-016. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Maedo and unanimously <br />carried. <br />CHIEF’S REPORT <br />Chief Darryl Oliveira introduced Battalion Chief Michael Gahan, who was <br />promoted to Fire Auxiliary Service Officer on June 18, 2007. <br />Budget <br /> FY 2007/08 Budget: All County departments met with the Department of <br />Finance on September 21, 2007 to receive budget directives for FY <br />2008/09. Received a status quo directive. However, the department will <br />be submitting a supplemental budget to reflect increased cost items that <br />they would like included in the program budget. <br />Chief Oliveira advised the commission that the Fire Department will <br />continue to request an increase in the travel budget to include funds for <br />travel. The funds would also be used to send personnel to training <br />opportunities in order the HFD’s strategic focus on the pursuit of training <br />and education. <br />3 <br /> <br />
