Our community has <br />come together to identify key areas where Bill 121 could be improved to ensure it aligns <br />more closely with the needs and values of our residents. <br />Firstly, we request the Planning Commission to recommend the removal of the affidavit <br />requirement. This requirement places an undue burden on homeowners and does not <br />directly contribute to the goals of the bill. It creates an unnecessary barrier for those <br />wishing to offer short-term rentals, which are a vital part of our local economy and tourism <br />industry. <br />Secondly, we urge the Planning Commission to recommend that Hawaii County provide <br />clarity for tiny homes, tents, trailers, and other alternative accommodations. The current <br />lack of clear guidelines creates confusion and inconsistency, hindering the ability of <br />property owners to utilize their land in a manner that respects both the environment and <br />local regulations. <br />Lastly, we ask the Planning Commission to recommend the removal of dangerous signage <br />requirements and protect operators from the public disclosure of addresses and <br />ownership. This not only protects the privacy and safety of property owners but also <br />respects the character of our neighborhoods, preventing them from being transformed by <br />overt commercialization. <br />These amendments are crucial for ensuring that Bill 121 does not disproportionately impact <br />our community members, especially those who rely on short-term rentals for their <br />livelihoods.
