For many years, we've welcomed guests into our home, offering them a slice of island
life. Every week, we have a small, intimate art painting gathering at my home with some of
my friends. Bill 121's broad definition of professional services has us worried. Our small
gatherings could be misunderstood under this umbrella, potentially subjecting us to limitations
that don't reflect the actual impact of our activities. These gatherings are vital to our sense of
community—they shouldn't be at risk due to an overly expansive interpretation of
'professional services.' Furthermore, the quiet hours proposed are excessively stringent. Our
evenings, filled with laughter and conversation, often extend beyond 8 pm, yet they are far
from disruptive. These hours do not align with the lifestyle many of us on the island enjoy and
could unfairly affect our ability to host. Being up past this hour is standard in our
neighborhood, and we believe the existing state noise regulations are sufficient to manage any
concerns. We urge you to reconsider these broad definitions and restrictive quiet hours to
ensure they truly serve our community's best interests without impinging on the traditions and
hospitality that make our island home special.
Mahalo,
Barb and Ray Poston
01
