Box 1179 <br />Kailua-Kona, HI 96745-1179 <br />Dear Mr. Stimac: <br />Amendment to Special Permit No. 549 (SPP 549) <br />Applicant: Kona Christian Academy <br />Request: Amendment to Condition No. 8 (Increase Enrollment to 180 Students) <br />Tax Man Key: 7-4-6:37 <br />The Planning Commission at its duly held public hearing on October 16, 1998, voted to <br />approve the above -referenced request to amend Condition No. 8 of Special Permit No. 549, <br />which allowed the establishment of a church and primary school facilities and related <br />improvements. The amendment is to allow an increase in the maximum enrollment from 120 <br />to 180 students. The property is located on the southeast side of Palani Road approximately <br />2,100 feet makai of the Palani Road -Hawaii Belt Road intersection, Honokohau 2nd, North <br />Kona, Hawaii. <br />Approval of this request is based on the following: <br />The applicant originally proposed to increase the enrollment of the school from <br />120 children to a maximum enrollment of 150 children. By letter dated July 30, 1998, <br />the applicant amended their•request to allow a maximum enrollment of 180 children. <br />The hours of operation would remain the same from Monday through Friday, 7:30 to <br />5:00 p.m. The expansion is based on the present demands of the community as more <br />and more parents seek Christian Education for their children. <br />Approval of this request would not be contrary to the General Plan or the <br />Zoning Code. The amendment to Condition No. 8 would not be contrary to the <br />original reasons for granting the Special Permit. The request is consistent with the <br />Land Use Element of the General Plan which states to "Designate and allocate lands in <br />appropriate proportions and mix and in keeping with the social, cultural, and physical <br />00398 <br />FtCT 2 6 1998 <br />
