My income in my retirement
is from Vacation Rental that I own in Hawaii. Please do not remove vacation rentals from the
Big Island! We would not have money to live on in our retirement if you remove the vacation
rentals permits.
Yes, there is a shortage of long-term rentals in Hawaii, but the government needs to resolve
these issues and the problem and not on land owners that rely on this income. I own long term
rental on the Big Island and it has made me aware that most of the people living on this island
are underpaid and have bad credit, therefore can't afford market rate rental prices. Therefore,
landowners are forced to rent to tenants from the mainland that have good income and good
credit. This issue shows you that Hawaiian renters are unable to find a rental they can afford
and they need government assistance for housing due to low pay in their jobs.
The government needs to build affordable housing for the underpaid Hawaiians and/or offer a
larger section 8 program. There must be other solutions! Taking away vacation rentals on the
Big Island will only hurt our Kupuna, who need the income to live.
Sincerely
Rian Jarvis
Landowner/Vacation Rental Owner
73-1128 Ala Kapua Street
Kailua Kona, HI 96740
1aughingprince(j4icloud, com
323-573-3577
