From: Anna Puanani Tanodra
To: W PCtesti mono
Subject: Punalu'u Ka'u Development Opposition
Date: Wednesday, March 6,2024 9:55:57 PM
Aloha kakou,
I am writing in opposition of the planned resort, residences and golf course development at
Punalu'u, Ka'u, Hawai'i.
As a Kanaka Maoli, I acknowledge `Aina as a living ancestor and recognize its need for protection
from overdevelopment, privatization and desecration. Resort development on the scale that is
currently proposed for Punalu'u will result in the overconsumption of natural resources and
disturbance to nesting/resting sites for Federally and Internationally protected Monk Seal,
Hawksbill Turtle and Nene. An increase of human population also means creating an unnecessary
high impact in an area renowned for its pristine natural coastline.
No amount of investor or tourist dollars will create a `better' experience for anyone to what is
already perfect natural beauty. We must preserve and protect Ka'u and acknowledge this wahi
pana for generations to come. By doing so we align with what is pono and deepen our relationship
to place, environment and culture while paying respect to lineal descendents of this region.
Mahalo piha for reconsidering this planned project.
Aloha,
Anna Tanodra
Ha'iku, HI
