From: K Chong
To: W PCtesti mono
Subject: Save Punalu"u
Date: Thursday, March 7,2024 1:31:29 AM
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Windward Commission, Hawaii County,
I am unable to attend the meeting at the County Council chambers tomorrow,March 7, but am
submitting testimony via email.
My 'ohana and I strongly oppose the proposed resort development in Punalu'u, Ka'u, Hawai'i.
It's impact on the Ka'u community and endemic species will be detrimental and an
unsustainable, unhealthy mark on this very sacred, very precious 'aina; a negative impact that
will last for generations.
We are adamantly against any further development in Hawai'i that does not benefit our
communities, local people, Hawaiians, resources, and endemic species. Hawai'i has the
highest rate of extinction, highest rate of unaffordable housing and major over development.
Punalu'u is one of our LAST remaining UNTOUCHED coastlines. Home to not only the
Hawaiian Hawksbill green honu, but burial sites and heiau, cultural and sacred significant
spaces, an intact AHUPUA'A.
This is not Pono. Please take our testimony in strong consideration. We need to protect what
we have left, especially in Ka'u. Ka'u is one of the last Hawaiian strong holds, a place where
we can still gather(from Makua to Makai)what we need to survive (food and medicines), a
place where we can practice and truly perpetuate our culture. We want to protect what we can
for our people, Kupuna and keiki.
Mahalo for taking the time to listen,
Keanuenueoha'aokalokomaikai,
Uilani, and
Haloaika'alekuaokamoana
