From: ouihano,Chasity <br /> To: WPCtestimony <br /> Subject: FW: Punalu'u development proposal <br /> Date: Tuesday, March 12,2024 4:33:33 PM <br /> From: kristi kranz <I<ranzsilk@gmail.com> <br /> Sent: Sunday, February 18, 2024 8:37 PM <br /> To: Council Testimony<counciltestimony@hawaiicounty.gov> <br /> Subject: Punalu'u development proposal <br /> Aloha County Council members <br /> I'm writing to ask that you do not approve the proposed development at Punalu'u.......As <br /> a resident of Hawaii for 40 years, I've seen too many developers come to our Islands <br /> looking to exploit these beautiful lands for their own interests, and not enough <br /> developers interested in protecting Hawaii Nei and the communities that make Hawaii <br /> Island unique and special. <br /> In researching this proposal, it seems to me land owner Eva Liu is being less than <br /> transparent to the community about her involvement with the developers, and in fact <br /> seems to be working with them hand in hand. <br /> Punalu'u is a sacred land to native Hawaiians, with its 4 Heiau and its' historical and <br /> archaeological sites, as well as sacred burial grounds. <br /> It is also home to endangered native plants and animals, including bats, turtles, and <br /> monk seals.A development like this will impact the fragile environment permanently <br /> and negatively. <br /> This sacred land should be preserved for eternity, the coastal areas protected by Hawaii, <br /> not handed over to non- native developers with little knowledge or concern for those <br /> who have occupied the land and seas for centuries, and whose motives are obviously to <br /> make a monetary profit from destroying what is. <br /> It is my opinion that there needs to be more stewardship for this Island, and all our <br /> Islands, more concern for communities that depend on their environment to lead happy <br /> and productive lives. <br /> What is done cannot be undone easily, and a development of this size will have a huge <br /> negative impact on Punalu'u .The future of Punalu'u lies in your hands and we are <br /> counting on you to do the right thing, which is to say NO to this proposal and protect the <br /> land from development. <br /> Thank you for your consideration <br /> Sincerely Kristi Kranz <br />
