From: anita liwai
To: WPCtestimony
Subject: Testamony against shoreline Management Area permit extension for Black Sands Beach- Punalu"u".
Date: Tuesday, March 12,2024 2:36:27 PM
I strongly oppose any hotel development in Punalu'u because this wahi pana is
culturally significant and home to many endangered species. It is necessary for the
residents of Hawaii nei to continuously fight to preserve our special places.
Developers are relentless and they will not stop until every inch is paved and gated
for the rich visitors to enjoy and local families and wildlife continue to suffer the effects
of overtourism.
My family has lived on Moku o Keawe for 5 generations and we have shed many
tears about the overdevelopment of our home. When will the tipping point occur?
People already don't want to visit Waikiki because of the ugly concrete and hotels. If
we don't fight to preserve land in its natural state, Hawai'i island will be just as ugly as
Waikiki and the "precious" tourist dollars will be spent somewhere else. Politicians
and decision makers have sided with developers for too long now, will you listen to
the people of Hawaii? Please deny the Shoreline Management Area/SMA permit
extension for Black Sands Beach LLC - Punalu'u.
Anita G. Silva-Liwai
