DeVera, Ashley
From: Jill Tomlin <jilltomlin29@gmail.com>
Sent: Tuesday, March 12, 2024 8:23 AM
To: Galimba, Michelle M.; mitch.d.roth@hawaiicounty.gov; Roth, Mitch D; Planning
Internet Mail; Kern, Zendo
Subject: Meeting for Ka'u in Ka'u
To Whom It May Concern,
Good morning. I understand that there is to be an extension of the meeting for the permits to diminish the
beauty of Kali. This is happening because of all the testimonies to speak out against any development,
as I understand it. I'd like to formally urge you to consider moving this meeting to take place in Kali, as
it's determining the very future of our district. It would be in the best interest of the district and her
people to have the meeting on a weekend, such a Saturday, so that this experience can be easily
accessible to the people this decision would directly affect.
Please understand how far the people have traveled, how early everyone was up on their days off from
their hard working jobs, as the prior meeting was on a weekday, to be able to attend and have the
opportunity to be heard. Please understand how wholeheartedly people are speaking out against this.
This is the last remaining affordable district across any island. We can only, all too easily, assume how
many people who see an affordable opportunity to move to Hawaii (while also not understanding the
limits of Oceanview and Naalehu, like water catchment and the building standard for example). Not only
will the development be a blemish on the untouched landscape, but it'll draw in people who will
undoubtedly go against the traditions of what it means to live Kali, to live country.
I beg that you consider moving this continued meeting to a more easily accessible location on a
considerate day(in Kali on a Saturday) for the people to speak their pieces. There are several open slots
on Saturdays at the Kali County Gym: March 16 &23, April 6, 13 &20. If you personally detest the
commute, or if it's too inconvenient, remember who this is for. Remember the people and families up at
5am ready to commute. Remember the people you're supposed to be considering and protecting. And
always remember to KEEP KA'U KA'U.
Thank you for your consideration.
Jill Tomlin
Resident& Mother in Kali
808-300-8262
Jilltomlin29@gmail.com
