From: Zahz HewLen
To: LPCtestimony
Subject: testimony to oppose 121, 122,and 123
Date: Thursday,April 18, 2024 10:22:25 AM
Aloha
My name is Zahz Manawapou HewLen and I am a candidate for HCC District 7. I encourage
the commission and council to scrap bills 121-123 and direct their attention to enforcing
current legislation already in place related to transient accommodations, which is yet to be
done effectively. If the intention behind these bills is to generate more long term rentals, I'd
suggest directing your efforts toward encouraging and providing incentive for property owners
to join in the service of renting longterm at affordable rates because currently there is none.
Property maintenance, taxes, and insurance are high with get on top of that. There are people
out there taking advantage of tenant code and shoving it in the faces of our landlords who
deperately need government support. There is a huge lack of accountability from the
government in these bills for the housing crisis we have today.
I oppose any further legislation because it is misguided focus and NOT the way to generate
more long term rentals.
Mahalo
