From: J M
To: LPCtestimony
Subject: Opposition Bill 121
Date: Monday,April 15,2024 2:22:33 PM
Aloha committee members,
My husband and I are local full-time Kapuna residents on Social Security. We rely on the
income from our short term rental on our property to help pay the costs on our agriculture lot.
We have sheep, multiple varieties of fruit trees, as well as vegetable and botanical gardens.
The upkeep costs continue to rise. Taxes continue to rise. General cost-of-living continues to
rise. We along with thousands of other local residents could no longer afford to stay on our
property if the county passes this bill.
The excessive hoops that we would be required to jump through, the excessive registration
fees and taxes that are being threatened against us not to mention horrific fines if we
accidentally make a mistake in our paperwork are an outrageous overreach of government.
Our local, state and federal government should work for the people and yet in Hawaii it seems
Government works against the people.
Please vote no on this bill. Please support your local homeowners who are just trying to pay
the mortgage. Please do not prioritize global corporations, such as Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt in
lieu of placing priority on local Hawaii island residents.
I am in favor of the county enforcing legislation already passed, and in place. I am in favor of
stopping non-Hawaiian residents from buying up property solely for the use of vacation
rentals. That is already a law on the books and should be enforced rather than placing punitive
measures on local citizens who are just trying to make a living on a very expensive island.
I am in favor of enforcing neighborhood noise restrictions. I am in favor of enforcing all
current laws that aim to keep neighborhoods safe and secure and peaceful. Please do not
disrupt locals trying to make an income when they are doing so legally on their own property
and the surrounding neighbors are supportive and have no complaints. This seems to go
against our bill of rights as American citizens. Quite unconstitutional.
Thank you,
Jane Morrill
