From: Jessi Brochu
To: W PCtesti mons
Subject: PUNALUU TESTIMONY
Date: Monday, May 6,2024 10:13:48 AM
To whom it may concern,
We live in Volcano and we love Punaluu. My fondest childhood memory is cleaning out the
back pond with my friends and having a luau after with the community. The community has
been loving and caring for Punaluu long before Black Sand Beach LLC. Those before didn't
care to maintain their existing infrastructure. Who's to say they will?Already complaining and
boasting about the 1 million spent on"cleaning up"?My children were just collecting garbage
all over the parking lot. There's still endless decay. They should be required to clean up and
not approved to build anything else. Where will the waste go? Where will the grey and black
water go? The transfer station can't withstand more garbage. Will they have their own waste
treatment plant?
Will the hospital be able to withstand more people in the area? Where's the power coming
from to supply the 200+units? We've been experiencing rolling power outages! How can you
phantom making more units when you can't supply adequate power to existing island
infrastructure. Currently Punaluu is becoming overcrowded. Bringing more tourism to this
side of the island isn't necessary. If Black Sand Beach LLC claims to be taking care of
Punaluu why is the state not doing their job? Why does Black sand beach need to step up?
They need to clean up"their"property before even proposing more infrastructure! If they want
to bring up the youth and lack of access to opportunity then maybe the state needs to step up
it's education system and offer more trade classes & learning opportunities to the Kau
children. The state receives more then enough funding from tourism already. Most state parks
needing repairs. Why let more people come and build extravagant things while continuing to
neglect the current community. We don't need outsider business and money to help the
community. The state needs to use state money properly. There's enough money to go around.
Seems Black Sand Beach LLC cares more about our community then the state. If that's true
then there's bigger fish to fry. Where's the state money going?
Mahalo,
Jessica Brochu
Volcano Resident
