their way through this small little town, transporting containers across the
Big Island from Kawaihae barge to Hilo barge. The traffic in Waimea would
be less of an issue if the barges were delivered straight into Hilo negating
the need for truckers to pass through Waimea to deliver supplies to Hilo
barge from Kawaihae barge. However this is not the case and we need to
be mindful of any activities, such as converting Agricultural land into
Commercial and small residential lots, which would create an even bigger
traffic issue for this small town of Waimea.
Over the decades but especially more recently with the ever-increasing
population and thus congestion of the roads in Waimea, there has been a
frequent occurrewnce of automobile accidents in the town of Waimea, the
traffic gets stalled for many hours and this is not safe for any ambulance
trying to get to the hospital in the town of Waimea, lately we have been
hearing a constant roar of ambulences. What is going to happen when
these small and huge developments are allowed to build endlessly, change
the zoning and make this Island a very dangerous place to drive. The auto
insurance rates are astronomically high on this island due to the unusual
amount of accidents that happen here, do we want to make this problem
worse with additional traffic created by more Commercial development of
this island?
The local residents cannot afford to absorb the exorbitant land and
residential prices that have been continually inflating at a rapid pace.
Additionally the property taxes have been on a rampant rise, making the
cost of living even more unafforable for the average person. How can this
benefit the Island people?
