From:Deborah
To:WPCtestimony
Subject:Deborah Davis Opposition proposed telecommunications ordinance
Date:Tuesday, September 3, 2024 8:04:15 AM
Aloha Sir or Madam,
Due to testimony for Item 8 deadline being yesterday, a holiday, and I’m not available for the
Zoom call, please accept my testimony in support of Bill 194 and in opposition of Item 8.
I urge you to support Council Member Cindy Evans' proposed ordinance, Bill 194,
which has already been forwarded to you. The new ordinance proposed by the
Director is too sympathetic and lenient with the telecommunications industry, reducing
reasonable protections and considerations for our community.
Item 8 allows for towers and antennas in ALL zoning districts with NO permitting
process and not enough requirements. Can you see how this is will create total
outrage from affected communities if it is allowed to go forward like this? Wouldn’t you
rather have a professional permitting process focused in the most appropriate zones
so that you will not repeatedly have to deal with angry and upset people? Please think
of how ugly and upset community members will be going forward in this manner.
Further, Item 8 gives total power to Planning with no other agencies involved. I
believe it is never a good idea to important considerations of many in a silo. And
without those potentially affected having more participation and say in their lives.
Where’s the Aloha?
Please consider Council Member Evans proposed ordinance which has clear and
attainable permit requirements. It is a very reasonable balance between the health,
safety and welfare needs of the people and the needs of the tech industry. It’s Pono
and Item 8 is not.
Mahalo for your time and serious consideration.
Deborah Davis
Pahoa, Hawaii
lan: 808-965-9203
cel: 808-339-1840
