From:Stephen Heiman
To:LPCtestimony
Subject:Agenda Item No. 3 -- Dr. Loi Chang-Stroman PL-REZ-2024-000061
Date:Wednesday, September 11, 2024 10:36:48 AM
Ms Barbara DeFranco, Chairperson
And Members of the Leeward Planning Commission
25 Aupuni Street, Suite No. 3
Hilo, HI 96720
Aloha, Ms. DeFranco,
Dr. Loi Chang-Stroman and Dr. Joy McElroy are seeking to rezone their property
at 77-311 Sunset Drive, Kailua-Kona, from Residential to Neighborhood
Commercial (CN).
I have been a patient of both doctors for over thirty-five years and have seen
firsthand their exceptional care and dedication to the Kailua-Kona community.
Both are Mayo Clinic-trained, with Dr. McElroy specializing in dermatology and
Dr. Chang-Stroman focusing on internal medicine and managing Urgent Care of
Kona.
The increasing demand for their services necessitates an expansion of their
practices, which is currently restricted by the existing zoning.
There have been several instances where I had to travel to Honolulu or the
mainland for specialized care that was previously available at their former
locations but is now unavailable due to the current zoning limitations.
I strongly support their rezoning request, as it will allow them to continue
providing outstanding medical care and meet the growing needs of the Kailua-
Kona community.
