From: Michelle and Joel Levey
To: LPCtestimonv
Subject: Oppose Item#4
Date: Wednesday,September 18, 2024 12:44:28 PM
Aloha County Councilpersons,
As senior health care providers and medical school faculty members (University of
Minnesota Medical School who have had a focus on "bioelectromagnetic fields and
health") We strong oppose Item #4 because we support Council Member Cindy
Evans' proposed telecommunications ordinance, Bill 194, which had already been
forwarded to you.
The new ordinance proposed by the Director is too sympathetic to the
telecommunications industry with not enough protections for our community or
inclusion of our voices in setting these policies.
It gives almost total power to Planning and Telecom with no other agencies or
experts involved! It rushes the approval process to only 30 days! It has no
provisions to protect us against 5G small cells! It freely allows towers at schools,
playgrounds and day care centers!
Due to potentially dangerous health and safety concerns from cell tower
transmissions, we suggest that any new towers should be placed at least hundreds of
yards away from any homes or pubic places where people gather and any residents
nearby must be included in the proposals to establish new towers near them.
Please consider Council Member Evans proposed ordinance which has clear,
attainable requirements. It is the perfect balance between the health, safety and
welfare of the people and the needs of the tech industry.
Mahalo nui loa,
Dr. Joel and Michelle Levey
PO Box 1298
Kapaau, HI 96755
