25 09
G. MANAGEMENT/PRESERVATION PLANS REVIEWED (See Instructions. Use
additional pages as needed.)
1. Please elaborate on how the proposed project activities align with existing plans, if there
are existing plans.
The Waikapuna Community Resource Management Plan was completed in June 2023. The Ka'u
Heritage Preserve Ranger Program will help to accomplish the stewardship goals listed in the
management plan specifically those actions which cannot be achieved through community
volunteers. These responsibilities include general property inspections and maintenance, resource
monitoring, assisting with public access and education, public safety and wildfire prevention. See
pages 34 - 59 of the plan and attached job descriptions.
https:Hrecords.hawaiicounty.gov/weblink/l/edoc/123842/Waikapuna%20Resources%
20Management%20PIan%20by%2OTownscape_Final%202023.pdf
We are awaiting a 2024 PONC Stewardship Grant award to finalize the drafting of the Kaunamano
Community Resource Management Plan. The estimated completion date is April 2025. We are
also awaiting a 2024 PONC Stewardship Grant award to initiate the drafting of the Kiolaka'a
Community Resource Management Plan. These reports will be provided to each of the contractors
to facilitate their understanding of the conservation values and resources including the
community's goals and strategies as outlined in the plan.
2. If you are proposing to produce a management and/or preservation plan, please explain
why such additional planning is needed.
N/A
FINAL 2025 Stewardship Grant Application,Page 9 of 13
