x,5..11
What are the objectives of the proposed project? Choose only one category and use
additional pages as needed.
❑ Management Planning Maintenance Activities and Public Education
Our goal is to manage and maintain the land for traditional cultural uses and practices including
activities associated with Makahiki. With the support of the County PONC program, grants
received by Ho`omalu Ka`u over the last six years have facilitated community efforts to steward
the property. Initially, attention was directed towards management of the pasture grass and
removal of former ranch debris as the property could not be used or accessed due to the
overgrowth. Proper maintenance of the grounds and trash removal over the past few years has
allowed for full use of the property for educational and cultural purposes including the hosting of
makahiki events and ceremonies. Going forward, the kuleana for this project will be transitioned
from Ho`omalu Ka`u to the Ala Kahakai Trail Association. The two organizations have worked in
partnership on multiple projects in the past.
FINAL 2025 Stewardship Grant Application,Page 4 of 13
