From: cookshi@aol.com
To: LPCtestimonv
Subject: Testimony Supporting HICDC PLANNED UNIT DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION(PL-PUD-2024-000004)
Date: Wednesday, November 20,2024 1:43:57 PM
Aloha - First a sincere apology for submitting this email of support after the 24
hour deadline for submittals for the Leeward Planning Commission hearing
tomorrow- Thurs., 11121124 regarding HICDC's proposed Planned United
Development application to allow exceptions from Chapter 23 (Subdivision
Code) Hawaii County Code for the development of an affordable housing
subdivision consisting of 43 single-family residential lots to be reviewed and
approved by the Planning Commission. The project has been named Koai'e and
is in no way connected to other proposed projects by unrelated entities in the region.
I submit this testimony as an individual Waimea resident and have read the
submittals and attended community meetings about this proposal so am aware
of the details, recommendations and conditions. I especially appreciate that
HICDC leadership attended a recent, very well attended Waimea community
meeting (about 170 residents attended) to discuss details about this project
and answer numerous questions from attendees.
I concur that approval of the State Land Use Boundary Amendment from the
Agricultural to the Urban District complements the State Land Use District
Regulations and County General Plan and is supportive of the Hawaii
State Plan.
Our community of Waimea, district of South Kohala and Hawai'i Island urgently
need this kind of truly affordable self-help housing and appreciate the
proposed plan and conditions proposed and recommended.
Please expedite favorable action as soon as possible to keep this project
moving forward as these 43 units (and more) are urgently needed to address a
severe shortage of affordable housing here for Hawai'i Island families.
MAHALO, Patti Cook 808-937-2833
Waimea, Island of Hawai'i
