LAND"' * z.. 194 Wiwoole St. Hilo, HI 96720
PLANNING (808) 333-3393
info@landplanninghawaii.com
HAWAII LLC
December 16, 2024
Ms. Barbara DeFranco, Chair
Leeward Planning Commission
COUNTY OF HAWAII
101 Pauahi Street
Hilo, HI 96720
Dear Ms. DeFranco:
Subject: Updates to Gilliom & Kissel Special Management Area Permit Application
(SMA 2024-000066)
Applicant: Greg L. Gilliom and Kathleen A. Kissel
Puak6, South Kohala, Hawaii, TMK: (3) 6-9-006:014
We are aware of misinformation regarding the subject application being publicized online and wish
to clarify for the record. Previous plans for the applicant's home would have taken access from the
short extension of Puak6 Beach Drive that fronts the north side of the property. However, the
applicants are sensitive to community concerns and do not wish to disrupt existing shoreline access
in any way. To preserve the current public shoreline access the plans have been modified to take
access from the mauka side of the property along the main stretch of Puak6 Beach Drive. Further,
the applicants are in agreement with proposed Condition 13, which memorializes this commitment
to preserve public shoreline access:
The Applicant shall not, at any time, impede or otherwise restrict public access and parking within
the public pedestrian access and road access located adjacent to the subject parcel.
Throughout the review process the applicants have displayed a sensitivity to public input and a
willingness to adapt and modify their plans to address legitimate concerns.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
JOHN PIPAN
Planning Administrator
Land Planning Hawaii LLC
