Hawaii Fire Commission <br /> Meeting Agenda <br /> October 23, 2025 <br /> Page 2 <br /> • Under Hawaii County Charter (HCC), Section 7-4.6(c), the commission will receive <br /> updates and discuss the progress of the rescue watercraft operator training <br /> program. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> • Discussion regarding the previously submitted letter concerning the commission <br /> secretary position. At a previous meeting, the commission reviewed and approved a <br /> letter regarding the secretary position, which was subsequently submitted to the <br /> Mayor's Office, the Hawaii Fire Department, and the Department of Human <br /> Resources. No response was received. The commission wishes to revisit the matter. <br /> • The commission will establish a permitted interaction group (PIG) to investigate <br /> issues related to funding, procurement methods, and the selection of an appropriate <br /> survey tool for use in the evaluation process of the Fire Chief, allowing department <br /> employees to provide feedback on the performance of the department head. This <br /> item is being reintroduced to comply with Sunshine Law requirements, as it was <br /> previously added by amendment at the August 28, 2025, meeting. <br /> AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING <br /> • The commission will discuss and make decisions regarding what items to place on <br /> the agenda for its meeting on Thursday, November 20, 2025. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> The commission's next monthly meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, <br /> 2025, at 9.00 a.m., at the County Building, Council Chambers, Suite 1401, 25 Aupuni <br /> St., Hilo, HI. <br /> ADJOURNMENT <br /> Submittinq Testimony: Those wishing to testify in person should register with the Commission <br /> Secretary at the meeting. Those submitting written testimony at the meeting should bring 10 <br /> copies for distribution. Testimony may be submitted by (1) mail to Fire Commission 101 Pauahi <br /> St., Suite 9, Hilo, HI 96720; or (2) by email to Charisse.Correa@hawaiipolice.gov. Please <br /> submit separate testimony for each item. All oral and written testimony will be public record. <br /> Notice to Lobbyists: If you are a lobbyist, you must register with the Hawaii County Clerk within <br /> five days of becoming a lobbyist [Article 15, Section 2-91.3(b), Hawaii County Code]. A lobbyist <br /> means "any individual engaged for pay or other consideration who spends more than five hours <br /> in any month or $275 in any six-month period for the purpose of attempting to influence <br /> legislative or administrative action by communicating or urging others to communicate with <br /> public officials."
