I. APPLICANT INFORMATION <br /> 1. Brief history of the applicant organization. Include the date of incorporation as a <br /> non-profit organization. <br /> The Kohanaiki 'Ohana is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 1990 and incorporated in <br /> 1995. Our mission is to enrich the social understanding and appreciation of Hawaii's native <br /> culture and environments and to protect the natural and cultural resources and historic treasures <br /> along the Kohanaiki and 'O'oma coastline on the West coast of Hawai'i island. The 'Ohana is <br /> dedicated to creating a positive park environment, to nurturing healthy and safe family building <br /> activities, and to promoting community stewardship and sustainability through respect for the <br /> people, the land and the sea. <br /> We have been actively involved in the stewardship of O'oma since the late 1990's and have <br /> received PONC Grant funds since 2018 to help restore and maintain the native ecosystem and <br /> health amd safety along the shoreline. <br /> The 2013 purchase of 'O 'oma with PONC funds was the culmination of over 25 years of efforts <br /> on the part of the Kohanaiki 'Ohana and the Kona community to protect this parcel of <br /> conservation land. <br /> 2.
