POLICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />November 21, 2025 <br />COMMENDATIONS <br /> <br />Five (5) commendations involving fifteen (15) personnel were received since the last <br />commission meeting in recognition of outstanding services. <br />SOUTH HILO <br />1. Island of Hawaii YMCA Chief Executive Officer Wendy Botelho extended their <br />gratitude to Officer Kaipo Aurello, Officer Christa Brodie, Lieutenant Kevin <br />Brodie, Officer Joshua Baumgarner, Officer Joshua Willing, Officer Blane <br />Kenolio, Officer Gyasi Williams, Officer Darren Abalos, Sergeant Joseph <br />Stender, Officer Dustin Chaves, and Lieutenant William Derr for their presence at <br />their Halloween Carnival which provided valuable educational opportunities for <br />the keiki. <br />2. Island of Hawaii YMCA Chief Executive Officer Wendy Botelho recognized <br />Officer Kaipo Aurello, Officer Christa Brodie, Lieutenant Kevin Brodie, Officer <br />Dustin Chaves, Lieutenant William Derr, Officer Joshua Baumgarner, Officer <br />Darren Abalos, and Sergeant Christopher Fukumoto for making their Trunk or <br />Treat event a success. <br />PUNA <br />1. Ms. Barbara Arthurs, a member of the Orchidland Neighborhood Watch, <br />expressed appreciation to our officers for keeping their roads safe from <br />irresponsible ATV drivers. <br />2. Mr. Brett Watson from Australia expressed gratitude to Officer Calvin Furtado for <br />his kindness and professionalism when a male party violently attempted to carjack <br />their rental vehicle. <br /> <br />HONOKAA <br />1. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Susan Serignese expressed appreciation to Officer Dustin <br />Sampaga and Sergeant Branden Watanabe for their calm demeanor, compassion, <br />and attention to details when their rental car broke down. <br />
