LT: Agenda item number 3, approval of the minutes. So, we all got emailed the minutes. Just
going, all in favor of passing the minutes, say aye. Anyone not in favor? None taken, so
minutes passed, thank you. Moving onto Agenda Item Number 4,Commissioner Reports by
District. We can start off with District 1.
4. COMMISSIONER'S DISTRICT REPORTS:
a. Each Commissioner will provide updates and share concerns about their
respective districts; Commissioners to decide on whether to add those
topics at the next meeting and to invite the public to provide testimonies and
presentations at their meeting. Permitted Interaction Groups maybe created
at this time. There will otherwise be no discussion or voting, which will be
reserved for when it is itemized on a future agenda.
RD: District 1, Robert Duerr, Makahanaloa of... How about Nui, they're purchasing two 40-acre
lots. Looks like a done deal. Past escrow, so they're just waiting for the final, set up for it.
Also, Blake has a request to the Commission to, give,to see if, Corp Counsel can give a legal
opinion on a, access problem. Seems a House... fortheirSMA permit, said theywere going
to have... allow access. However, they haven't been allowing access. Blake says the
problem now is, the final approval will come, and they're worried, if the final approval
happens, that they're never going to get access. So, he's asking Corp Counsel to give heads
up. The FADS I heard from Warren Cortez initially, were going to replace him, at first of the
year. Lack of funding, end of 2026. So, that's... that's really... for example, one FAD,
Pepeekeo FAD,was a$4 million pounds aggregator. So,with that missing, you can see how
much food is not going on the table, or going and getting food becomes a lot harder. Once
again, Ho'omula initiative for essential commu nity-d riven fish regulations around the island.
If you know somebody who's interested,or you'd like to be on the commission. And,contact,
DAR, or you can see Ryan Okano, who's at the DAR building in the state building up there.
That is all I have.
BL: Brian Ley, District 4.What about Pittman funds for the FADS?
RD: This is something that the GMAC can look into. What is this money? Where is the fund,
and what is this money? And is it possible for alternatives? Can we as a community set
funds, set FADS for a lot less, you know, what the states are on. So... That's not where it's at.
??: Did UH use to own those?
RD: Yeah, UH... It might be the first of past the meeting. Are the people who got the contract. So
that's a little weird, too. The other sideline is what they're saying is environments don't...
environmentalists also haven't pushed back, because they don't like the fact that when you
lose a FAD, now you get rope on the bottom of the ocean. So,there may be more, you know,
lack of funding. There may be some issues that need to be investigated.
BL: So, if the Coast Guard can put a buoy out there and it never moves, I don't see why we can't.
Better chains. Better buoy.
